Love Poetry
by Penny:
Being a hopeless romantic, love poetry
is one thing I love to write. *giggle giggle* The
poems currently on this page are:
Lover's Promise
Lover's Lament
A Declaration of Love
Loneliness
Dazed
Temptation
Eyes
Long Distance Relationship
The Senses of Love
Lovers on Levels
Other poems that belong here or where they are:
Love Beyond Death, one of
the sonnets I wrote.
Red Rose, and Seasons
in the Nature Poems.
Lover's Promise:
I wrote this poem, as well as
the next four at 'Take Our Daughters to Work Day' at Dad's work
on April 22, 1999. I had one of those days where poetry
just sort of flowed out of my pen and on to the paper with very
little stop in my brain.
Our hearts, like twin rosebushes, are entwined.
I will never do anything to separate
The love that on us has ever shined,
As if by some decree of Fate.
I am yours, and you are mine.
It shall be so for Eternity.
I will protect thee and thine,
And I will show those you love fraternity.
And if, by chance, you should die
Before I do give up this Earth,
I will weep, moan & sigh,
And I will never forget your love's worth.
But, if I should die first,
My soul will watch you like a dove.
So your life will never be cursed,
And, I hope, you will ne'er forget my love.

Lover's Lament:
4/22/99. Not something
I've actually gone through, luckily.
As I walked through my world
Everything reminded me of you,
And at me, pain it hurled,
Reopening wounds old and new.
Here we kissed for the first time,
Here you whispered three magic words,
There I wrote you a loving rhyme,
and here we sat listening to the birds.
But now these places you will no longer visit.
For from this Earth you did go.
You are gone, why is it
To a place that I cannot follow?

A Declaration
of Love: 4/22/99. It happened
to me, and it still does...
As I look at your face, I know
That I must tell you of
The love that burns within.
But I know no place to go,
Where the cooing of a gentle Dove
May my declaration begin.
My love I can no longer hide;
But my knees are too weak,
And my mouth is closed with Superglue.
Gathering my courage, I take you aside.
But, before I can speak
You say, "I love you."

Loneliness: 4/22/99. Something I know very well,
when I wrote this I hadn't seen him in weeks.
If I had wings I would fly,
And in a second be at your side.
My heart, with love, would soar high;
My joy, I could not hide inside.
Then, when we were reunited
All wrongs would be righted.
I do not have any wings,
And I see you but by-and-by.
My heart, with sadness sings
Of loneliness I cannot deny.
It seems forever 'till I see you again;
How hard it is to wait 'till then!

Dazed:
4/22/99. This poem is
another one written from my experience.
Whene'er I see you,
You put me in a daze
With all your loving ways.
When I first knew
Of your love,
My heart fluttered like a caught dove.
Each time I think of you
And remember that feeling,
My head starts wheeling.
I wonder how a guy like you
Could want someone like me,
When there are far prettier girls to see.
But you always prove you do,
In a thousand little ways.
And every time, you leave me dazed.

Temptation:
4/23/99. This one was
inspired by a quote on our school morning announcements about
someone who didn't need leading down the road into temptation
because they could find it themselves. .
Every time I look at you,
No matter where we are,
I thank my lucky star.
And there is just one thing I want to do.
No matter how inappropriate the place,
I feel a surge of desire,
A warm and passionate fire,
Every time I see your face.
It doesn't matter what the occasion,
You are always able to distract.
I know I have not lacked
A road into Temptation.

Eyes: 5/21/99. I'm not sure what inspired this
one, but I think I wrote it bored in class.
Every person's eyes are a window
Into the inner recesses of their soul.
To me, they can show
Their heart as a whole.
A smile isn't a smile
If it doesn't touch their eyes.
But, if I stare into yours for a while,
My heart flies.
What is it in your look,
When you're looking back at me?
Your love like an open book
Is all that I can see.

Long Distance Relationship: 7/3/99. It's true.
I know people may think I'm a fool
To believe I know true love at my age.
But this I do know, in my soul, to be true:
I love you with all of my heart.
Why is it that Fate is so cruel?
She keeps my heart from freedom in her cage;
Whenever I wish to love with you,
She intrudes to keep us apart.

The Senses
of Love: 11/2/99.
I don't remember much about what inspired this, 'cept that I
was thinking about needing to be held because I was lonely.
I stand here in front of you
And look into your eyes;
Now I know what love looks like.
I lean towards you,
And caress your hair;
Now I know what love feels like.
I sit here next to you
And you whisper in my ear;
Now I know what love sounds like.
I sit here, in your lap
And my lips meet yours,
Now I know what love tastes like.
I lie here beside you,
And hold you tight;
Now I know what love feels like.
Love is a bright gleam in your eye,
The smell of roses under the summer sky.
Love is the whisper of dove's wings,
The taste of honey and other sweet things.
Love is being comforted by the knowledge that I am safe,
Whenever you are with me.

Lovers on
Levels: 11/2/99. Written
the same day as the last one and came from the same train of
thought. I think I wrote parting section first and then
created the poem around it.
Standing when they first meet,
Two lovers will kiss, each other to greet.
Sitting when they chat,
Two lovers their eyes will bat.
Lying down when they closest are,
Two lovers find enjoyment beyond par.
Sitting when to enter society they prepare,
Two lovers' souls are still bare.
Standing when they part,
Two lovers hug each other to their heart.
No matter what level we're on,
Our time together is never too long.
