Poetry in Celebration of Rain

Today, Saturday, August 8, 1999 I was woken by the sound of rain.  RAIN!!!  The first time it rained here in SE Pennsylvania in months!!!  So I wrote poetry!

Rain and Drought, a Diamante
Raindrop
Rain
The Raindance Song [with midi soon!]

Rain and Drought, a Diamante:  8/8/99

rain
fresh, wet
falling, striking, soaking
drop, cloud  -  sunshine, heat
drying, scorching, dying
dry,   hot
drought

Raindrop:  8/8/99
Raindrop, raindrop, where are you?
I hate to bid you goodbye.
Why aren't you falling through
Our scorchingly cloudless sky?

Raindrop, raindrop, come back, or I dread
What will happen to our lakes.
My plants will all soon be dead,
I might as well go buy fakes.

Raindrop, raindrop, it's been so long!
My grass has died, my flowers are dying.
I've forgetten the sound of your song
And the smellof the air that you bring.

Raindrop, raindrop, have you died?
It's been two months sice it last rained in June.
Our whole town will be dried
Of all its water, unless you come back soon!

Raindrop, raindrop, there you are!
I can't believe that you've come back.
I'm thanking my lucky star
As I watch you seep into a crack.

Raindrop, raindrop, fall on me!
Your sweet song gets me out of bed,
I smell fresh air, I feel free,
As you patter upon my head!

Raindrop, raindrop, please don't go away!
Keep falling on our dusty ground.
Keep Fortune smiling, for until today,
Upon us she had only frowned.

Rain: 8/8/99
Rain smells of fresh moist air.
Rain feels like a gentle touch.
    Rain tastes of unchlorinated water.
    Rain looks like falling crystals.
Rain is a blessèd, wet, relief.

The Raindance Song:  8/8/99
Rain, rain, come to me!
So that I no longer dry will be.
Come make my grass soaking wet.
Come liven my flowers, about which I fret.

Rain, rain, come to us!
Come stop all this drought fuss.
Refill the water in our reservoirs,
So that we can wash our cars.

Rain, rain, let it rain!
Let it drive away this pain!
Let it soak into our ground!
Let the blessèd rain be found!
